Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons announced today they signed winger Shane Joseph to an Amateur Try-Out. Wayne Thomas, General Manager of the Barons, made the announcement.

Joseph, 22, recently finished his collegiate career at Minnesota State University-Makato. Joseph finished 7th in the WCHA in scoring in 2003-04 with 43 points on 19 goals and 24 assists. He left Minnesota State-Mankato with 144 career points, 16th most in the school's history. The 5-9, 170-pound forward did not miss a game in his last 3 seasons at MSU.

In 2002-03, Joseph was a linemate of current Barons center Grant Stevenson. That season, Joseph was fourth in the nation with 65 points and Stevenson was tied for fifth in the nation with 63 points. The tandem led the MSU Mavericks to their first-ever NCAA Frozen Four Tournament berth. The duo became the first All-Americans in the school's hockey history. Both players were selected to the JOFA Second Team All-American.

"This is a great opportunity for Shane to gain professional experience and prove that he can play at this level," stated Thomas. "Pairing him with Stevenson should make him very comfortable and we have every belief that their past success together will continue here."

Joseph will be in the lineup tonight as the Barons battle the North Division leading Hamilton Bulldogs at 7pm at Gund Arena. It will mark the first professional experience of his career.

In a related move, the Barons released forward Brent Kelly from his Professional Try-Out Agreement. Kelly will return to the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL.

Barons tickets can be purchased at all TicketMaster Outlets, the Gund Arena Box Office, and charge-by-phone by calling 216-241-5555. More information about the Barons is available by calling 216-420-0000 or by Crashing The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.
