LOOKING AHEAD:
There aren't many inter-divisional games left on the AHL schedule, but Wednesday's slate provides three intriguing ones, beginning at Van Andel Arena, where Grand Rapids plays host to Toronto (7:00 ET). Four losses in their last seven outings have dropped the Griffins into a tie for the West Division lead, and Danton Cole's club finishes with eight of its final 12 games away from home. The Roadrunners are 18-7-3-1 since Jan. 10, and led by reigning Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week Jamie Wright, have scored 28 goals in their last eight games. Toronto comes into play in a three-way logjam for third place in the North, tied with Rochester and Cleveland.
With one regulation loss in its last eight games (5-1-1-1), Houston visits Worcester's Centrum Centre (7:05 ET, 6:05 CT) to take on the IceCats. The Aeros sit precariously in fourth place in the West with a six-point lead over San Antonio and Cincinnati, but by Thursday morning, the Rampage will have six games in hand on the defending champions. Worcester's Mike Glumac has tallied a point in 10 of his last 11 games (7g, 4a), and joins Wilkes-Barre's Michel Ouellet as the only rookies currently leading their teams in scoring. Houston goaltender Johan Holmqvist, who posted the first Game 7 road shutout in Calder Cup Finals history in June, has just two wins in his last 17 road decisions (2-13-2).
Hartford makes its first ever appearance at the Giant Center to take on Hershey (7:30 ET), which hasn't posted a home-ice win over the Wolf Pack since Nov. 21, 1998. Former Bears defenseman Ryan McGill has his Pack sitting atop the Eastern Conference, while Hershey is in the middle of a four-team dogfight for the final three spots in the East Division. The Bears have lost five in a row against Atlantic Division foes, but took a 4-2 win over Hartford on Jan. 2 behind Peter Budaj's 52-save effort. AHL All-Star Chad Wiseman has 19 points in his last 17 games and leads active Wolf Pack players in scoring.
