Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Three of the Rochester Americans defensemen are out and about this week interacting with young fans through the "Reading Power Play". The program continues this week with three readings in two days, beginning this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Branch Library with Adam Comrie.
On Wednesday, November 17th, Mike Caruso and Colby Robak both make appearances. Caruso reads at 4:00 p.m. at the Monroe Branch Library (809 Monroe Avenue), and Robak takes a stab at the task a few hours later at 6:30 p.m. at the Henrietta Public Library (455 Calkins Road). The program is currently in its sixth straight season, and is brought to you exclusively by Wendy's.
Comrie, Caruso, Robak and the rest of the Amerks will hit the ice again on Friday, November 19th as they take on the Hamilton Bulldogs at The Blue Cross Arena. Over the course of the next few days, however, the trio will showcase their reading skills, not their on-ice skills. Each will be joined by The Moose, as they teach kids about hockey and the importance of reading. The program also rewards kids for reading and selects two grand-prize winners that will win dinner, suite tickets and the opportunity to participate in the ceremonial puck drop prior to Rochester's home game on Sunday, February 13th against the Grand Rapids Griffins. For more details, go to Amerks.com.
The Amerks will also distribute ticket vouchers to each youth in attendance good for one complimentary ticket for any Amerks home game. Additional discounted tickets in the 200-Ends can also be purchased for as little as $10.00 with the opportunity to upgrade to another section of choice.
The "Reading Power Play" involves players stopping by local libraries, reading to kids and giving a hockey demonstration. Each appearance also features a raffle for Amerk memorabilia and an autograph session by the visiting player and The Moose.
The second half of "Reading Power Play" enters kids into a grand-prize drawing. Using a hat trick as a thematic vehicle, youth participants fill out a form for every three books they read, which then qualifies them for an entry into the grand prize drawing.
The "Reading Power Play" runs from Thursday, October 14th to Tuesday, January 25th. A complete reading program schedule will be available at the Amerks Guest Services Booth in the upper atrium lobby on game nights and online at amerks.com. To book a reading or player appearance, contact Warren Kosel at (585) 454-5335, ext. 3025.
