Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Toronto Marlies 2-1 in a shootout on Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum. David Desharnais scored the shootout winner while Curtis Sanford made 23 saves on 24 shots for the victory in net. Marlies netminder Jussi Rynnas had a first star performance as he made 43 saves on 44 shots. The game was Alex Henry's 347th as a Hamilton Bulldog, which surpasses the mark of 346 set by Duncan Milroy. Henry is now the franchise leader in games played in a 'Dogs uniform.
Following two periods where neither team could score, the Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie at 8:33 of the final frame with a power-play marker. Aaron Palushaj received the puck from Alexander Avtsin while positioned in the left corner. Palushaj fed a pass across the crease and onto the stick of Ryan White. White tapped the puck past Toronto starting goaltender Jussi Rynnas.
The Marlies tied the game 1-1 at 8:56 of the third stanza. Danny Richmond received the puck from Greg Scott before blasting a shot on net. The puck sailed through traffic before beating a screened Curtis Sanford.
Both teams were unable to score in the overtime period, sending the game to a shootout. David Desharnais scored in the fifth round of the shootout while Sanford stopped four of five shooters he faced to win the game for the Bulldogs.
