Worcester Sharks News Release
WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President Michael A. Mudd announced today the formation of the Worcester Hockey Hall of Fame to recognize individuals who have made a significant impact in the sport of hockey in central Massachusetts as a player, coach, administrator, as a member of the media, or as a builder in professional, collegiate, high school, or amateur hockey.
The Worcester Sharks will recognize the first class of inductees on Saturday, January 22 before the Sharks host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on "IceCats Night - a tribute to the Worcester IceCats."
"When the Sharks arrived to Worcester in 2006, we were surprised to learn that there was no type of platform to recognize individuals who have contributed to the great sport of hockey in central Massachusetts, said Mudd. "We feel the time is right for the Sharks to step up and begin to recognize individuals from all different facets of the game who have helped our sport continue to be the best in the world."
Each year, the WHHF Committee will review nominations for the upcoming class. To submit a nomination for the 2011 WHHF class, please email HallOfFame@SharksAHL.com a brief and general description as to why the nominee should be considered for this honor.
The WHHF committee is as follows; (in alphabetical order)
Bill Ballou - Worcester Telegram & Gazette
John Coughlin - former Worcester State hockey assistant coach
Peter Glanville - former Auburn A.D. and varsity hockey head coach
Michael Mudd - President, Worcester Sharks
Arthur Sachse - former youth hockey coach, Supervisor of Off-Ice Officials at Sharks games
Kevin Shea - Sports Director, Charter TV3
Sherman Whitman - News Director, WTAG
This year's class is expected to include 4-6 inductees and will be honored on the ice before the Sharks game on January 22. The 2011 class will be announced in early January.
