Springfield Falcons News Release
The Springfield Falcons rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and beat the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3 at the MassMutual Center on Tuesday night improving their record to 9-6-0-1 on the season. With the win, Springfield jumped back into second place in the Atlantic Division. The Falcons will return home on Friday night when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack at The Nest.
The Falcons were led by the line of Matt Calvert, Ben Guite and Tomas Kubalik who accounted for four goals and four assists on the night, including a pair of markers by Kubalik. Kubalik netted the game-tying and game-winning goals while also picking up two assists on the night. Guite scored his third goal of the year and added two assists, while Calvert scored his eight goal of the year and extended his scoring streak to six straight games.
"Ben (Guite) has a very good way with young players and explaining things and sometimes it's better coming from their peers than the coaches," said Falcons head coach Rob Riley. "That line has really started to click and they were very good tonight."
The night didn't start out the way Springfield had plained and it was too similar to the way the game started in Bridgeport back on November 3. The Sound Tigers came out fast in the opening period and used a pair of power play goals in the first eight minutes of play taking a quick 2-0 lead. Brett Motherwell scored at 5:10 on the man advantage, followed by Robin Figren scoring at 7:26 of the opening frame.
The second half of the first period belonged to the Falcons and at 10:47 of the first period, Calvert cut Springfield's deficit to 2-1. Guite tied the score at 2-2 when he tallied his third goal of the year with just nine-seconds remaining in the opening period pulling the Falcons back all even.
In the second period, Bridgeport regained their lead at 3-2 when Tony Romano scored his fourth marker of the year, but at 11:58 of the middle session, Kubalik converted on the man advantage making at a 3-3 hockey game.
Just 2:43 into the third preriod, Kubalik scored his second goal of the night giving Springfield their first lead of the night at 4-3.
