Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans could become the first team to clinch an American Hockey League Calder Cup Playoff spot tonight. Rochester, however, needs a win over the Binghamton Senators and some help to secure its 16th straight trip to the postseason. The Amerks playoff bid also requires Syracuse to lose in regulation to Hershey and Hamilton to suffer a regulation loss to Chicago.

Last season, the Amerks advanced to the Western Conference Finals, where they lost to the eventual champion Milwaukee Admirals in five games. In the past 48 years, Rochester has won six Calder Cups (1965, 1966, 1968, 1983, 1987 and 1996).

Rochester (44-10-4-5) currently leads the AHL with 97 points. The Amerks have also won 17 of their last 18 games at home. Their record 17-game home winning streak was stopped Wednesday night, following a 4-3 overtime loss to the Binghamton Senators.

The Amerks host the Senators tonight at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. Tickets are still available by calling (585) 232-1900. The contest will be broadcast on WHTK 1280-AM and amerks.com.

Amerks can clinch a playoff berth tonight if:
(1) Rochester defeats Binghamton, and
(2) Syracuse loses in regulation to Hershey, and
(3) Hamilton loses in regulation to Chicago
