
Pirates Announce Salty Pete's "Skate for the Kids"

PORTLAND, ME- The Portland Pirates Foundation has announced the creation of Salty Pete's "Skate for the Kids" fundraiser, which will be held on April 3, 2005 at the Cumberland County Civic Center, to raise funds for The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. The Pirates and The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center will unveil officially all the details of the relationship and "Skate for the Kids" event at a press conference at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14th in the Captain's Club at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
"Skate for the Kids" will be a five hour ice skating event. Players and coaches from the Portland Pirates will participate in the event with 30- minute shifts during the day. All the Pirates players' skating times will be posted on April 3rd at 10:30 a.m. on the Pirates website at www.portlandpirates.com. The team and staff will be joined by the general public for all of the five hours of the event, which includes 60 minutes of skating after the Pirates 4:05 p.m. game against the Springfield Falcons. In addition to skating, there will be music, refreshments, snacks, prizes, contests and a whole lot of fun, all to raise awareness and funds to support the great work being done for kids at The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.
For a donation of $25 per fan or $50 per family, participants have the chance to skate for at least one hour and receive an official Salty Pete's Super Skate T-shirt, fans can also still skate without making a donation. Attendees that choose not to skate can still make a donation, and show their support for The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center by visiting the main lobby and signing a big "get well" card for the kids at The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.
To help The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, everyone is encouraged to bring new and unused toys, such as craft kits and movies rated G, PG and PG-13 as well as other gifts to the Civic Center to donate to The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. Pirates players will also be playing table hockey and bubble hockey with the fans. Players will be available for photographs and autographs throughout the entire event. There will also be a raffle for an authentic Portland Pirates team autographed jersey.
Businesses and organizations that support the "Skate for the Kids" with a $500 contribution will be recognized as a "Special Friend," and be mentioned in Pirates and Barbara Bush promotional materials after this year's event and on the event's web location all year. Sponsors that make a $500 contribution will also be able to display their banner at the Civic Center during the event, and receive two tickets to the Pirates final regular season game. For a $1,000 contribution, the donor will become a "Super Friend" and get all the above plus their company name and logo on the official event t-shirt as well as be introduced at a special on-ice ceremony during the Pirates game on April 3rd.
The donor will also qualify to be selected to win one of two grand prizes - four season tickets for the 2005-2006 Pirates season. All the proceeds go to The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, through the Portland Pirates Foundation, a 501 (C ) (3) Maine public charitable organization. Donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.
The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center provides and sponsors comprehensive, family-centered health care for the children of Maine and northern New England. The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital key activities include: Collaborative delivery of integrated health care services to children, promotion of children's health, education of caregivers in the principles and practices of healthcare for children, advancement of the knowledge and care of children through clinical research and the treatment of complex medical and surgical diseases in a tertiary care facility.
