Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans closed out 2014 on Wednesday night with a 5-3 win over the Rapid City Rush.
The Americans scored twice in the opening frame, Rylan Schwartz (3) and Jack Combs (18), as Allen scored on their first two shots, chasing Rush starter Raphael Girard. The Rush scored on Robin Soudek's 10th of the year late in the opening frame and the Americans took a 2-1 lead into the intermission.
Allen added two more in the second period, as Garrett Clarke scored his 1st of the season with a great fake in front of the net, poking one past Danny Battochio, to put Allen up 3-1. Jack Combs scored his second of the night less than two minutes later, to give Allen a 4-1 lead, his 19th of the season. Rapid would close it to 4-2 late in the second period, but the Americans took a two goal lead to the locker room.
Jack Combs closed out the scoring in the final period with an empty netter, for his third of the night, and the second hat trick in team history on New Year's Eve, matching Dave Bonk's performance in 2010.
The Americans improved to 6-0 lifetime on New Year's Eve and earned their 20th win of the season.
