Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the seventh of 11 head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel were defeated by the Fort Wayne Komets on Wednesday at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana by a final score of 6-3. With the loss, the Fuel fell to 6-17-3-3 overall this season and with 18 points, remain alone in seventh place in the ECHL's North Division standings.
Fort Wayne dashed to a 2-0 first period lead, as Michael Embach's 11th marker of the season made it 1-0 Komets at 1:53 before Garrett Meurs nudged home a rebound tally just over one minute later to supply Fort Wayne with a two goal edge heading into the first intermission.
In the middle frame, a Thomas Frazee goal gave Fort Wayne a 3-0 lead at 10:01 and started a stretch of just over two minutes of play in which the Komets and Fuel combined for four total goals. Dan Ford's second tally of the season put Indy on the board at 3-1 before another Frazee tally re-established a three-goal advantage for Fort Wayne at 12:02. In desperate need of some positive momentum, the Fuel were rewarded at 12:17 with Nick Bruneteau's second score of the season, an in-close backhand assisted by Robert Czarnik and Mike Duco that made it 4-2 Komets after two periods of play.
In the third, Fort Wayne claimed another three-goal lead at 4:35 on Matthew Pistilli's ninth tally of the season, before Robert Czarnik rifled home his team-leading 17th of the year at 10:57 to pull Indy within two at 5-3. An empty-net score from Eric Faille at 18:12 pushed the Fort Wayne advantage to 6-3 and established the Komets' final margin of victory.
Komets goaltender Pat Nagle was solid in the win, turning in a 26 save performance, while Mac Carruth took the loss in net for the Fuel with five goals allowed on 29 shots faced.
