American Hockey League Announces Alignment, Schedule Format

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The American Hockey League's Board of Governors has approved the conference and division alignments for the league's 2007-2008 season.

There are no changes to the Eastern Conference alignment for the upcoming season. The Penguins will once again play in the East Division, which also includes Albany, Binghamton, Bridgeport, Hershey, Norfolk and Philadelphia.

In the Western Conference, the Lake Erie Monsters join the North Division for their inaugural season, while the Rockford Ice Hogs will begin their first campaign in the AHL playing in the West Division.

The conference and division alignments are as follows:

Additionally, the league has also announced its schedule format for the 2007-2008 season, which sees all 29 teams play an 80-game schedule (40 home/40 away).

The majority of the Penguins games will once again come from within the East Division, with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton taking on Hershey, Norfolk and Philadelphia a total of 10 times apiece (5 home/5 road), and the Pens facing Albany, Binghamton and Bridgeport 8 times apiece (4 home/4 road).

The Penguins will play two games (one home/one road) against all of the Atlantic Division squads with the exception of Hartford, and will play Hamilton, Lake Erie, Syracuse and Toronto in the North Division. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will not face any opponents from the West Division in 2007-2008.
