Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... The American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews and the league's Board of Governors announced today the schedule format and alignment for the 2007-08 season. The format for the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs will be released at the AHL's Annual Meeting next month.

Rochester (48-30-1-1, 98 points) finished the season in second place in the North Division, which was three points ahead of the third-place Hamilton Bulldogs (43-28-3-6, 95 points). The Amerks were eliminated by the Hamilton Bulldogs in six games in the North Division Semifinals. Rochester made its 17th playoff appearance in the last 18 years.

In 2007-08, the Amerks will remain in the Western Conference's North Division. The division, however, has expanded to seven teams and now includes Rochester, Syracuse, Hamilton, Manitoba, Grand Rapids, Toronto and the Lake Erie Monsters in Cleveland. Fans will also have a chance to watch 18 of the league's 29 teams at The Blue Cross Arena.

This season, the Rochester Americans' unbalanced 80-game schedule features 64 games against Western Conference opponents. The Amerks' divisional schedule includes six games against Lake Erie and eight versus Grand Rapids, Hamilton and Manitoba. Rochester still plays thruway rival Syracuse 12 times.

In addition, Rochester will play 14 games against the Western Conference's West Division, which has produced three of the last four Calder Cup winners. The West Division slate includes two games against Chicago, Houston, Iowa, Peoria, San Antonio and new franchises in Quad City and Rockford.

In the Eastern Conference, the Amerks play a total of 16 games. The contests are sprinkled among five teams. The Amerks play geographical rival Binghamton eight times and have two games each against Albany, Hershey, Providence and Manchester.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. The 2007 Calder Cup Final series begins Friday night, with Hershey and Hamilton battling for the 71st American Hockey League championship.
