River Rats announce 2007-08 schedule format

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats, primary affiliate for the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, announced today their schedule format for the 2007-08 American Hockey League season.

The River Rats' 2007-08 schedule will consist of 48 games against East Division opponents, 20 games versus teams from the Atlantic Division and 12 games against North Division foes.

Albany will again compete in the East Division of the AHL's Eastern Conference, along with Binghamton, Bridgeport, Hershey, Norfolk, Philadelphia and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The following is a breakdown of games against each team by the River Rats in 2007-08: eight games (four home, four road) versus Binghamton, Bridgeport, Hershey, Norfolk, Philadelphia, Syracuse and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton; four games (two home, two road) versus Lowell, Portland and Worcester; and two games (one home, one road) versus Hartford, Manchester, Providence, Rochester, Springfield and Toronto.

The format for the 2008 Calder Cup playoffs will be determined at the league's Annual Meeting next month. The schedule for the AHL's 72nd season will be announced later this summer.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. The 2007 Calder Cup Final series begins Friday night, with Hershey and Hamilton battling for the 71st American Hockey League championship.
