Abbotsford Heat News Release
Moline, IL- The American Hockey League announced today the conference and division alignment for the 2007-08 season. In their inaugural season, the Quad City Flames will compete in the West Division of the AHL's Western Conference. Last season, Calgary's AHL prospects finished with the best record in the Western Conference while playing in Omaha.
The AHL's West Division will feature eight teams, more than any other division. The Chicago Wolves, Houston Aeros, Iowa Stars, Milwaukee Admirals, Peoria Rivermen, Rockford IceHogs and San Antonio Rampage will compete with the Flames for the division crown. Five of the squads will be located within 215 miles of The MARK including a trio of teams from the Flames' home state of Illinois.
The format for the 2007-08 regular season schedule was also released today. The Flames play an equal number of home and road games against each of their 13 opponents. The Iowa Stars make twelve appearances on the Flames' inaugural schedule. The Flames play their closest geographic rival, the Peoria Rivermen, ten times during the 2007-08 season. Quad City will face each of the remaining division opponents eight times for a total of 62 games against divisional opponents.
The Flames will also face-off with six of the seven squads from the AHL's North Division. Grand Rapids, Lake Erie and Manitoba will face the Flames four times each. Hamilton, Rochester and Toronto will each play the Flames twice. In their inaugural season, the Flames will not face an opponent from the Eastern Conference.
