Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON, Texas - Playing in a new look West Division of the American Hockey League, the Houston Aeros will face 18 opponents in the 2007-08 season. The AHL's schedule format and divisional alignment were announced Wednesday. The Aeros, who saw 15 other teams in 2006-07, will play four "new" opponents in the upcoming season.
The Aeros, primary developmental affiliate of the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild, will play in the AHL's only eight-team division, along with Chicago (Atlanta), Iowa (Dallas), Milwaukee (Nashville), Peoria (St. Louis), Quad City (Calgary), Rockford (Chicago) and San Antonio (Phoenix). The Quad City Flames and Rockford IceHogs are both entering their first season as AHL teams. The Aeros will play 27 of their 40 home games and 54 of their 80 overall games against the West Division.
The other new foes are the North Division's Lake Erie Monsters (Colorado) and the Atlantic Division's Springfield Falcons (Edmonton). The Aeros will also face off with Providence (Boston) for the first time since their inaugural AHL season of 2001-02.
Houston will also play Eastern Conference foes Hartford (New York Rangers) and Worcester (San Jose), as well as Grand Rapids (Detroit), Hamilton (Montreal), Manitoba (Vancouver), Rochester (Buffalo/Florida), Syracuse (Columbus) and Toronto (Toronto) out of the North Division.
The Aeros will play in-state rival San Antonio 10 times (five home, five road), down from a total of 12 in each of the first five seasons.
