
Canucks Sign Mario Bliznak

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced they have signed centre Mario Bliznak to a National Hockey League contract.
Bliznak, 20, just completed a Memorial Cup championship season with the Western Hockey League's Vancouver Giants. In five games during the tournament, the native of Trencin, Slovakia finished fifth in scoring with a goal and five assists. In 22 playoff games this year, Bliznak scored six goals and six assists for 12 points as the Giants advanced to the WHL Final. This regular season, he appeared in 47 games with the Giants and scored eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points and 20 penalty minutes. He also appeared in all six games for Slovakia at the 2007 IIHF Under-20 Championships where he scored a goal. In two seasons with the Giants, Bliznak scored 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points in 116 games.
He was originally drafted by the Canucks in the seventh round, 205th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
