Albany Breaks Scoreless Stalemate Late, Shuts out Admirals 2-0

ALBANY, N.Y. - David Wohlberg broke a scoreless tie with 2:33 left in regulation and goaltender Jeff Frazee made 31 saves as the Norfolk Admirals (37-33-4-1) fell to the Albany Devils (31-31-1-12), 2-0, on Saturday night at Times Union Center.

Norfolk goaltender Frederik Andersen (24-17-1) made 27 saves on 28 shots but was saddled with the loss. The Admirals out-shot the Devils, 31-29.

Norfolk remains tied for the eighth and final playoff berth with the Hershey Bears and Connecticut Whale at 79 points. The Admirals can only clinch a playoff berth with a win against the Providence Bruins tomorrow and a Hershey loss (of any kind) against the Manchester Monarchs. Both games are played tomorrow as the AHL's regular season comes to a conclusion. Norfolk visits Providence at 3:05 p.m. while Hershey hosts Manchester at 5:00 p.m. Connecticut's regular season ended tonight in Portland.

Neither team found the back of the net through the first two periods. Andersen turned aside 17 shots and Frazee made 22 saves through two periods.

In the waning moments of regulation, Harri Pesonen stopped a Norfolk clearing attempt at the left point. He sent the puck towards the net, and Wohlberg found it in the right circle for the goal at 17:27 of the third period.

Mike Sislo scored into an empty net with 15 seconds left in regulation.

Norfolk was 0-for-4 on the power play. Albany was 0-for-3.
