
Akron Hits Four Homers, Beat Sea Dogs 12-2

Portland, Maine - The Akron RubberDucks plated seven runs in the third inning and ran away with an 12-2 win over the Sea Dogs on Friday night at Hadlock Field.
With the game tied 1-1 after two innings, Akron batted around in the third with help from two errors committed by the Sea Dogs. After Danny Rosenbaum walked two hitters to begin the third, Carlos Moncrief sacrificed, but reached on a throwing error by Rosenbaum. Next, Yandy Diaz reached on an error by Tzu-Wei Lin to allow a run to score. Bradley Zimmer followed with a two-run single and two batters later Ronny Rodriguez hit a three-run homer to give Akron a 7-1 lead. The RubberDucks sent 11 men to the plate in the third and scored seven runs (two earned) on three hits.
Rosenbaum (L, 0-5) went 2.1 innings and allowed eight runs (two earned) on three hits, walking three and striking out one. Mike Augliera entered the game in the third inning and worked 4.2 in relief, allowing three earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out five. Simon Mercedes pitched the last two innings and allowed one earned run on a hit while walking one.
Akron added four more runs in the game - all on home runs. Yandy Diaz hit a two run homer in the fourth off of Augliera, Bryson Myles added a solo shot in the sixth, and Ronny Rodriguez hit his second homer of the game in the ninth off of Mercedes.
Duke von Schamann earned the win for the RubberDucks in his first start of 2015 after serving a 50-game suspension. The righty von Schamann allowed two earned runs on four hits in five innings, walking one and striking out four. Jacob Lee, Casey Weathers, and Jeff Johnson combined to pitch the last four innings and hold the Sea Dogs scoreless.
The Sea Dogs scored their runs on an RBI single by Oscar Tejeda in the first and a solo home run by Carlos Asuaje in the fourth.
The series continues tomorrow evening at Hadlock Field, first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM . Luis Diaz (1-9, 5.47) takes the mound for Portland versus D.J. Brown, making his Akron debut in 2015.
