New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Ryan Schimpf went 2-4 with his 14th home run and K.C. Hobson added three hits and two runs batted in, but the Fisher Cats came up a run short in a 5-4 loss to Erie on Friday night. Despite the loss, the Fisher Cats (58-57) did not lose any ground in the playoff chase as both Reading and Binghamton fell on the road.

A victory seemed to be in the cards when the Fisher Cats came out firing. After a perfect first by Casey Lawrence, the Fisher Cats pushed three across in the bottom of the frame. Roemon Fields scored on an error before two runs came home on an infield single by Hobson. The early tally put New Hampshire up 3-0.

Lawrence (L; 11-11) cruised along until the fourth when Erie (47-70) put one on the board on a sac fly by Dominic Ficociello. Two innings later, JaCoby Jones homered to cut the deficit to 3-2. In the seventh, back-to-back doubles knotted the game at 3-3.

Lawrence came back out for the eighth, immediately giving up a lead-off double to Jason Krizan. A fly out to left by Jones would send Lawrence to the showers in favor of Dustin Antolin. The Hawaiian was greeted loudly by a long two-run homer from Dean Green to put Erie on top for the first time, 5-3.

Schimpf pulled the Fisher Cats back within a run in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, he launched a home run to right onto the access road. He finished 2-4 with a double and two runs.

Lawrence took the loss allowing four runs over 7.1 innings. He gave up nine hits and finished without a walk or a strikeout. Antolin allowed one run while also letting one of Lawrence's base runners score on the home run.

Montreal Robertson (W; 2-3) earned the win for Erie with 2.1 innings of relief. Paul Voekler (S; 7) earned the save with a perfect ninth. Chad Green gave up three runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings for the SeaWolves, but the starting pitcher took a no-decision after his team rallied in the late innings.

The series continues on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. with Atlas Fireworks presented by AutoFair. Fans can also win prizes playing USA Subs Baseball Bingo. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, by calling (603) 641-2005, or by visiting the team box office at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Saturday's pitching match-up has lefty Scott Barnes facing Erie lefty Josh Turley. Tom Gauthier has the radio call beginning at 6:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
