NEW BRITAIN, CT - New Britain starter Ryan Carpenter struck out a career-high 11 over eight innings to lead the Rock Cats past the Binghamton Mets, 6-1, on Friday night at New Britain Stadium. New Britain tagged Gabriel Ynoa for 10 hits, including six for extra bases, to grab the series opener. The B-Mets struck out a season-high 14 times and were held to one hit in defeat.

Carpenter opened his stellar night by setting down the first ten B-Mets he faced, collecting a half-dozen strikeouts during the stretch. TJ Rivera ended the cruise, and provided Binghamton's lone offensive highlight, by depositing a 2-0 pitch over the left-field wall for his fourth home run on the road trip.

The southpaw bounced back from the long ball and struck out the next three B-Mets batters he faced. Carpenter tossed a perfect fifth, stepped around a walk to pinch-hitter Gilbert Gomez in the sixth and fanned two in a blank seventh. The Arizona native capped his night by working a perfect eighth inning, holding the B-Mets hitless in their final 14 at-bats.

The Rock Cats started their assault on Ynoa in support of Carpenter early, plating a run in the first inning. Ryan Casteel put New Britain on the board by floating a two-out RBI single into shallow left. Mike Tauchman doubled the Cats lead by depositing a run-producing single into left in the third.

New Britain distanced themselves from the B-Mets with a two-out rally in the fifth. Tauchman pulled a triple down the right-field line and came home when Casteel dumped a two-out single into right. Jordan Patterson capped the three-run frame by blasting a two-run homer beyond the right-field wall.

Carpenter (7-12) allowed just two B-Mets to reach in his second victory against the B-Mets. Ynoa (8-8) was touched for five runs on ten hits over five innings in the defeat.

The B-Mets (64-53) continue their final visit to New Britain on Saturday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Matt Koch starts against RHP Chad Bettis. The Horizons Federal Credit ion Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
