Trenton Thunder News Release
2011 American League All-Star Michael Pineda will join the Thunder for a rehab start on Sunday August 16 when the team hosts the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies) at ARM & HAMMER Park at 5:00pm.
Pineda, who was acquired by the Yankees from the Seattle Mariners in January 2012 in exchange for former Thunder C Jesus Montero and RHP Hector Noesi, is recovering from a right forearm strain that has sidelined him since July 30.
This season, the 26-year-old has made 19 starts for the Yankees compiling a 9-7 record with a 3.97 ERA. In 118.0 innings pitched he has allowed 129 hits, 15 walks and struck out 117. Pineda's 15 walks in 118.0 innings (1.14 BB/9) is the second-best rate in the American League behind former Thunder, and current Minnesota Twin, RHP Phil Hughes (0.94 BB/9).
Pineda made two rehab starts with the Thunder in 2013 in his recovery from shoulder surgery. On June 25, 2013 against the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers), Pineda threw six innings of shutout baseball at ARM & HAMMER Park. He started again five days later at Binghamton and surrendered four runs in three innings pitched.
In his career, Pineda has compiled a 23-22 record with a 3.42 ERA in 60 starts.
Pineda is expected to start for the Thunder on Sunday at 5:00pm when the team hosts its annual Bark at the Park night, presented by Dogs & Cats Rule. Gates open at 4:00pm and fans can bring their well-behaved dog to the game for free.
