Admirals Set to Welcome Stanley Cup

December 3, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals will welcome the Stanley Cup on Saturday night as Hockey's Holy Grail makes its first ever visit to Hampton Roads. On the ice, the Admirals will look to turn things around this week as they go up against a pair of East Division Rivals from Pennsylvania.

Last week, the Admirals fell in four road contests against East Division foes. On Wednesday, the Admirals suffered one of their worst losses in franchise history at the hands of the Albany River Rats as they fell 7-0 at the Times Union Center. In the rematch on Friday night, Norm Milley and Adam Henrich scored late goals for the Admirals to force overtime. However, Ryan Bayda's goal with 24 seconds left in overtime gave the Albany River Rats a 4-3 win over Norfolk. On Saturday night in Binghamton despite scoring four power play goals and holding the lead twice in the game, the Admirals came up on the wrong side of a seesaw battle, as the Binghamton Senators spoiled goaltender Karri Ramo's return from injury with an 8-5 decision over Norfolk. On Sunday evening in Hershey, Adam Henrich scored twice, but the Admirals surrendered four third-period goals as the Hershey Bears claimed a 6-4 victory.

The Admirals will wrap up their five-game road trip on Friday night in Philadelphia with a 7:05 matchup against the Phantoms. Friday night will be another Admirals B2 Night at Baxter's (see below for more details). On Saturday night, the Admirals will host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Scope with a 7:15 p.m. faceoff. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. to allow fans to begin viewing the Stanley Cup in Meeting Room Four (see below for more details). The Stanley Cup will also tour the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and Norfolk Naval Station on Sunday.

EAST DIVISION STANDINGS

The Admirals remain locked in a tight East Division battle, as only nine points separate second place Albany to seventh place Bridgeport. With an 8-13-1-2 record and 19 points, Norfolk is in sixth place in the East. With 33 points, the Philadelphia Phantoms (16-6-1-0) hold a seven-point lead over the Albany River Rats (12-10-0-2, 26 points). The Hershey Bears (12-8-0-1) and Binghamton Senators (11-8-2-1) are tied for third place with 25 points. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (12-10-0-0) hold fifth place with 24 points, while the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (8-11-1-0) round out the division with 17 points.
