Last Week's Games

Tuesday, November 27th - Quad City 1 at Chicago 4

An outstanding effort by Chicago netminder Kari Lehtonen, down in the AHL on a conditioning assignment, carried the Wolves to a 4-1 victory over Quad City on Tuesday night at Allstate Arena. Lehtonen made 27 saves while Chicago center Alexandre Giroux scored twice in the win. Adam Pardy scored on the power play with just ten seconds left to prevent the shutout. The Wolves took a 1-0 lead on a first period power-play goal by Alexandre Giroux. Veteran center Steve Martins sprang Giroux on a breakaway during the Wolves man advantage. Giroux fought through a hook by Flames defenseman Adam Pardy to net his seventh goal of the year. The marker stood up as the only tally of the opening period despite several great Flames scoring chances that were denied by Chicago netminder Kari Lehtonen. In the second period, Lehtonen continued his hot play as he assisted in killing off three Flames power-plays in the opening ten minutes of the period. The Wolves netted the only goal of the period with 59 seconds left in the frame. Giroux scored on a shot from the left wing circle that beat Flames netminder Matt Keetley. The Wolves salted the game away with a pair of early third period goals. Joel Kwiatkowski scored on the power play with 1:32 elapsed in the period. Jason Krog added an even strength tally three minutes later to put Chicago up 4-0. With just ten seconds remaining in the game, Adam Pardy scored on the power play to ruin Lehtonen's shutout bid and set the final at 4-1.

Friday, November 30th - Milwaukee 2 at Quad City 3 (Shootout)

The Flames broke out of a two-game winless skid with a 3-2 shootout victory over Milwaukee on Friday night at the i wireless Center. Grant Stevenson and Brandon Prust provided the regulation goals as the Flames improved 10-10-1-2. The Flames took a 1-0 lead on a first period power-play goal by Grant Stevenson. Carsen Germyn took a shot from the left wing point that Stevenson tipped past Milwaukee netminder Pekka Rinne for his eighth goal of the year. The tally was the only goal of the opening 20 minutes as Quad City finished the first with a 1-0 lead. In the second period, Quad City extended their lead to 2-0 when Brandon Prust flipped Krys Kolanos' rebound into the Milwaukee net. Stevenson started the play when he carried the puck into the Admirals zone and found Kolanos with a pass while falling to the ice. Rinne stopped Kolanos initial attempt but couldn't stop Prust on the rebound. The Admirals got on the board at 11:40 of the second period when Janne Niskala fired a point shot past Quad City netminder Brent Krahn during an Admirals power play. The tally was Niskala's fifth goal of the year vs. Quad City and his sixth overall. After 40 minutes, the Flames skated back to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead. The Admirals completed the comeback by scoring the only goal of the third period. John Vigilante netted his fifth goal of the year after slamming Dave Scatchard's rebound past Krahn and into the Quad City net. After a scoreless overtime period, the game headed into a shootout. A highly offensive shootout featured four goals in the first two rounds. Kolanos and Derek Couture scored for Quad City in the opening rounds while Milwaukee answered with goals from Rich Peverley and Mike Santorelli. In the third round, Renne stoned Stevenson and Matt Ellison scored to give Milwaukee a 3-2 shootout edge. The Flames battled back with fourth and fifth round goals by Carsen Germyn and Tomi Maki respectively. Meanwhile, Krahn stopped the last two shooters he faced to earn the win.

Saturday, December 1st - Manitoba 3 at Quad City 2

Brad Moran netted the game-winner with just 58 seconds remaining, as Manitoba topped Quad City 3-2 on Saturday at the i wireless Center. Krys Kolanos and Brad Cole scored for Quad City in the loss. The Flames jumped on top at 10:41 of the first period when Krys Kolanos scored on the power play. Kolanos skated through the Manitoba zone before wiring a wrist shot past Manitoba netminder Drew MacIntyre. The Moose evened the score with 1:49 left in the first period when Alexandre Bolduc picked off a pass during a Flames power play and skated into the Flames zone on a power play. Bolduc beat Brent Krahn for his sixth goal of the year, and first shorthanded tally. The opening 20 minutes ended with the game tied at one. The Moose took the lead for the first time at 3:53 of the second period when Jason Jaffray scored his eighth goal of the year following a give and go with linemate Colby Genoway. The Flames answered back at 7:33 of the middle frame when Brad Cole blasted a shot from the left wing point into the Manitoba net to tie the game at two. Cole's marker was his first as a pro. In the third, Brad Moran knocked a centering pass of a Flame and into the Quad City net with just 58 seconds left to secure the victory.
