Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans will usher in the last month of 2007 American Hockey League action this weekend with two games in three nights, one of which is against a North Division opponent.
Rochester's December home schedule kicks off with a North Division matchup as the Amerks play host to the Toronto Marlies on Friday, December 7th. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. The game can also be seen live on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26. The game will be the first visit from the Marlies to the Flower City this season and the second of eight scheduled meetings between the two teams this season. The contest falls on the next installment of the Amerks' Friday Night Frenzies. Prior to the game, fans can enjoy live music from The Greater Rochester Jazz Orchestra up until gametime. The Amerks fell to the Marlies, 4-1, in the second game of the season back on October 6th at Ricoh Coliseum. Rochester is 9-10-0 all-time against the Toronto Maple Leafs' affiliate.
Due to a change in the schedule, the Amerks game that was originally scheduled for Saturday, December 8th against the Albany River Rats has been moved to the evening of Wednesday, December 19th in Albany at the Times Union Center.
The Amerks will complete their weekend at home on Sunday, December 9th as they welcome the second visit from the Binghamton Senators to The Blue Cross Arena. The 6:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. The game will be the third of eight meetings this season between the two New York State teams. The contest falls on a Supercuts $6.00 Sunday. All kids 12 and under can receive a ticket to the game for just $6.00. After the game, fans can head down to The Distillery at 3010 Winton Rd South to enjoy the official postgame party. Show your guest check from The Distillery at the BCA Box Office for a $3.00 discount off any 100 or 200 premium Amerks ticket. (Regular price $21). In their previous meeting, the Amerks dropped a 4-1 decision to the Senators on Thanksgiving Day. Rochester is 18-18-4 all-time against Binghamton.
The Amerks (10-11-1-2, 23 points) enter the week sitting in third place in the American Hockey League's North Division standings after posting a 1-1-0-0 record over the past weekend in New England.
Rochester earned its 10th win of the season with a 3-1 win over the Manchester Monarchs Friday night at Verizon Wireless Arena. Forward Mark Mancari scored a pair of goals and added an assist to garner first star honors. His three-point performance also extended his point-scoring streak to three games (2+3).
Drew Larman made an immediate impact in his return the lineup, notching a goal and an assist. The third-year centerman missed the past 12 games (10/27-11/23) recovering from a separated shoulder.
Also returning to the lineup Friday night was first-year right wing Kenndal McArdle and defenseman Mike Funk. McArdle was sidelined for the last 16 games (10/17-11/23) after suffering a broken jaw in a fight against Manitoba's Jason Jaffray on October 16th. Funk picked up two penalty minutes (PIM) in his return to the blueline for Rochester after sitting out the past nine games (11/02-11/23) with a strained groin.
The following night, Rochester's tour of New England continued with a stop in Rhode Island to face the Providence Bruins. Providence used five second period goals from five different players to hand Rochester the defeat. Rochester native Chris Collins netted his eighth tally this season in the win. Left wing Stefan Meyer netted the Amerks' lone goal.
Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the Florida Panthers have returned right wing Anthony Stewart to the Amerks. Stewart left the team after the game in Manchester to dress in Florida's 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals Saturday night. Stewart has appeared in seven games this season with the Panthers. With Rochester, the LaSalle, Quebec, native has registered 17 points (7+10) and 22 PIM in 16 games. His 17 points are third best on the team.
Mancari leads the Amerks with four goals and 17 assists for 21 points in 24 games. His 17 assists presently rank him 10th in the league. Further, 10 of his 17 helpers have come on the man advantage, good enough for 11th in the league.
