Admirals Playoff Hunt Continues with Two Critical Games this Weekend

Milwaukee, WI-This weekend the Milwaukee Admirals (60 Games Played, 30-26-2-2-64 points, 4th place Midwest Division, 11th place Western Conference, 19th place AHL) travel east for a pair of weekend games starting Friday night at Lake Erie (63 GP, 32-25-2-4-70 points, 2nd place North Division, 8th place Western Conference, 13th place AHL) and concluding Saturday afternoon in Toronto (62 GP, 34-21-4-3-75 points, 1st place North Division, 2nd place Western Conference, 5th place AHL.

Friday's trip to Cleveland will mark the Admirals final contest of the season against Lake Erie. In the three prior matchups Milwaukee picked up five of a possible six points versus the Monsters, dropping only a 3-2 overtime decision at the Bradley Center on Jan. 15. In their latest battle, the Admirals scored a 3-2 overtime victory of their own at Quicken Loans Arena on Jan. 19. Milwaukee forward Chris Mueller (Buffalo, New York) provided the difference, scoring on a penalty shot at 3:33 of overtime. Jeremy Smith (Dearborn, Michigan) earned the win for Milwaukee by making 23 saves. Trevor Cann stopped 21 of 24 Milwaukee shots in the loss for Lake Erie, which currently owns the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, six points ahead of the Admirals.

Milwaukee's Saturday matinee at North Division leading Toronto will close the season series between the Marlies and Admirals. In the only prior meeting of the season series, Milwaukee posted a 2-0 shutout of Toronto on Dec. 16. Admirals forward Mark Van Guilder (Roseville, Minnesota) scored both of the game's goals, including the game winner 15:11 into the first period, while Smith blanked the Marlies with 33 saves. The win pushed Milwaukee's record against Toronto to 8-1-0-2 over the past five seasons, which includes a 3-1 Admirals victory on March 1, 2011 in the only matchup between the two teams at Ricoh Coliseum last year.
