Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY, Pa. - Tomas Kundratek registered a goal and three assists, Kyle Greentree registered two power-play goals and Dany Sabourin made 31 saves to help the HERSHEY BEARS earn their third straight win on home ice, a 6-3 thumping of the Adirondack Phantoms on Friday night at GIANT Center.
The BEARS got on the board first, before a large portion of the remainder of the game was played on special teams. Kundratek started his night by roofing a wrist shot through traffic and over a prone Jason Bacashihua at 2:50. Newly-signed forward T.J. Syner earned his first professional point with the primary assist, with Garrett Mitchell the secondary.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, the Phantoms forced the BEARS into penalty trouble and skated to a 2-1 lead. Brandon Manning fired a wrist shot past Sabourin at 4:05, the rebound of former BEARS forward Matt Ford's chance. Ford then snuck a power play shot past Sabourin's glove at 6:30 for a 2-1 lead. Denis Hamel assisted on both Phantoms goals.
With momentum seemingly in their favor, the Phantoms were working a power play when Maxime Lacroix was whistled for a high-sticking double minor penalty. But it would be the BEARS' Mitchell who came out of the penalty box and redeemed himself by beating Bacashihua with a wrist shot off of the netminder's arm at 10:06.
The BEARS then earned a two-man advantage of their own, scoring on each part to take a 4-2 lead. Greentree tipped a Chris Bourque slap-pass upstairs at 15:56 to give the hosts a 3-2 lead, and then Cody Eakin's slapshot from the left circle eluded Bacashihua at 16:54.
D.J. King then sent a pass from the right boards toward the slot, where Mike Carman got enough of the pass to tip it past Bacashihua at 19:41, giving the BEARS a 5-2 advantage at the second intermission.
Greentree scored his second power play goal of the night at 11:28 of the third, slapping a shot from the left boards past Bacashihua. Garrett Roe scored shorthanded with 2:38 to round out the scoring.
Sabourin improves to 12-9-4 with the win, while Bacashihua drops to 8-10-1 in making 18 saves on 24 shots. The BEARS finished the night with a season-high 10-for-11 penalty kill and 3-for-8 on the power play.
The BEARS maintain their hold on fifth place in the Eastern Conference, improving to 32-20-4-6 (74 points).
HERSHEY remains home to take on the Albany Devils tomorrow, March 17 at 7:00 PM. The BEARS will wear special St. Patrick's Day-themed jerseys which will be auctioned off following the game.
