Hogs Sign Volkening to a PTO

Rockford, Ill. - Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced on Friday that the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League have signed goaltender Andrew Volkening to a professional tryout contract.

Volkening, 26, appeared in 37 contests with the Air Force Academy during his senior season in 2009-10. The netminder fashioned a 16-15-6 record with four shutouts, along with a .918 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average.

In four seasons backstopping the Falcons, the Genoa, Illinois native posted a 69-39-14 record with a .911 save percentage and a 2.30 goals against average.

Volkening will join the IceHogs in time for their game tonight at the Toyota Center as the Hogs faceoff against the Houston Aeros at 7:35 p.m.

Next Home Game: Tuesday, March 20 vs. Hamilton. The Bulldogs are in town for the second and final matchup against the IceHogs in 2011-12. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Taco Bell Dollar Days continue Tuesday night with beers, hot dogs, soft drinks and companion tickets available for just one dollar a piece.
