Houston Aeros win 4-3 over Rockford

HOUSTON --- Justin Fontaine had two goals and an assist for the first three-point game of his career to lead the Houston Aeros to a 4-3 over the Rockford IceHogs Friday at Toyota Center in front of a sellout crowd of 11,373.

Jeff Taffe scored for the second straight game, Kris Fredheim scored his second goal of the season and Joel Broda and David McIntyre each had two assists for Houston.

Joe Fallon made 26 saves for the Aeros, who improve to 30-20-3-9, and move into a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference with Charlotte and Abbotsford with 72 points.

Fontaine put the Aeros ahead 1-0 at 4:23 in the first period, and Taffe upped the lead to 2-0 less than three minutes later with his 15th goal of the season.

After Peter LeBlanc cut the lead to 2-1 with a power play goal at 15:01 in the first, Fredheim extended the lead to 3-1 with a power play goal at 19:44 in the first.

Fontaine added his 15th goal of the season at 7:42 in the second period to make it 4-1.

Fontaine has points in his last six games (4-5=9) and has points in 11 of the last 12 games (5-12=17). Fontaine also has five multi-point games in the last 12 and ten multi-point games total this season. It was the second straight game Fontaine has scored twice.

Rob Flick scored at 16:19 in the third and another goal less than 30 seconds later to cut the lead to 4-3.

The Aeros continue their six-game homestand Saturday against the Abbotsford Heat at 7:35 p.m. at Toyota Center.
