Admirals Fly by Aeros 5-2

Milwaukee, WI-- The Milwaukee Admirals topped the Houston Aeros 5-2 Friday night at the Bradley Center increasing their point streak to six games and pulling four points ahead of Houston in the race for the West Division Title. A hot power-play and multiple point nights by Chris Mueller (2g, 1a), Gabriel Bourque (1g, 1a), Roman Josi (2a), Aaron Johnson (2a), and Ryan Thang (2a) led Milwaukee to the crucial win.

Jarod Palmer opened up the scoring for Houston with a power-play goal at 4:41 of the first period. Warren Peters carried the puck around the back of the net and wristed a shot that bounced off Smith's pad and into the slot. Palmer got a piece of the puck and gave Houston a 1-0 lead. Cody Almond also notched an assist.

At 6:54 of the first period, Bourque put Milwaukee on the board. Brett Palin passed the puck to Thang who drove the puck up the boards and fired a shot that ricocheted of the right pad of Houston netminder Matt Hackett. Bourque was there to clean up the rebound and knot the game at one.

Jon DiSalvatore gave Houston the lead at 17:19 of the first period. With heavy traffic in front of the net, Patrick O'Sullivan put a shot on net that was initially stopped by Smith but trickled in. Casey Wellman also picked up an assist on the tally.

Milwaukee turned up the heat scoring four goals in the second period.

With the Admirals on the power-play, Chris Mueller found the back of the net at 4:49 of the second to tie the game at two. Roman Josi made an aggressive pass to Bourque positioned in the corner. Bourque sent a quick pass across the slot to Mueller who put the puck passed Hackett.

Less than two minutes later, Mark Van Guilder scored his first power-play goal of the season and the eventual game-winner. With the puck tied up at the boards Van Guilder was able to pull it free and dump it down low to Mark Santorelli. Santorelli made a behind the back pass through the slot and back to Van Guilder who chipped it into the net, giving Milwaukee a 3-2 lead. Aaron Johnson also recorded an assist on the marker.

At 15:16 of the second Mueller scored his second goal of the night. Johnson fired a wrister through traffic that was knocked down by Hackett, but Mueller was there to pick up the rebound and light the lamp, giving him his fifth multiple goal game of the season.

Teemu Laakso scored his seventh goal of the season and increased his point streak to three games at 15:48 of the second. Off the face-off, Mueller fed the puck to Josi who found Laakso at the top of the right circle. Laakso blasted the puck past Hackett to give the Admirals a 5-2 lead.

Jeremy Smith made 22 saves giving him a four-game winning streak and boosting his record 15-6-2, while Kelsey Wilson played his 294th game in an Admirals sweater, breaking the franchise's AHL record for games played.
