Abbotsford Heat News Release

Not all kids have the opportunity to be involved in sports. But now, thanks to RONA, more children in Abbotsford will get in the game and have a chance at a happier, healthier lifestyle.

As a sponsor of KidsportTM, RONA donates $50 for every Abbotsford Heat goal scored at Heat home games. The points this season added up to $5,000 which will be presented to KidSportTM Abbotsford at the Heat's April 5th home game at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

"We are delighted to join forces with the Abbotsford Heat and KidsportTM to help children throughout Abbotsford participate in sport no matter their parents financial circumstances. As a truly Canadian company, what better way to give back to the community than partner with KidsportTM" said Abbotsford RONA Store Manager Stan Mathieson. "KidsportTM reflects RONA's commitment to promote the values of fair play, social responsibility and perseverance, while encouraging our young people to lead active lives and pursue their dreams."

KidsportTM believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports. "The challenges that come with playing sports also teach children valuable life lessons," explains Karen Sauer, President of KidsportTM. "Skills such as leadership, practice, hard work, dedication and self confidence help to develop these children into active citizens later in their lives. It really benefits our entire community."
