Admirals Bounce Back

Adam Munro made 28 saves, and Quintin Laing had a goal and an assist, as the Admirals bounced back from their shutout loss of two nights ago to defeat the River Rats 4-1 in Albany.

Norfolk came out of the gate firing the puck on Albany netminder Frank Doyle, putting 15 shots on net in the first period. It appeared that the teams would head off to the locker rooms scoreless after twenty minutes, but the Admirals' fifteenth shot dented the twine with just four seconds remaining. Pavel Vorobiev and Scott Bertoli broke in on Doyle with a two-on-one power play break. Bertoli dropped the puck from left circle at the hashmarks to a trailing Brandon Rogers in the slot. Rogers' shot beat Doyle stick side. Norfolk led 1-0 after one period.

The Admirals lit the lamp with their sixteenth shot on goal, as well. Michael Blunden sent a perfect feed to the top of the left circle, where Quintin Laing one-timed the puck over the glove of Doyle at 3:22. The River Rats cut the Admirals' advantage in half with 2:18 left, as Jason Ryznar's shot trickled through the pads of Adam Munro. The visitors led 2-1 heading into the locker room after two periods.

Norfolk cashed in on a five-on-three power play just 1:23 into the final frame. Rogers sent a shot from the point that Doyle stopped but couldn't control. Martin St. Pierre found the rebound and deposited it into an empty net. Just over halfway through the period, Carl Corazzini got the puck at center ice and quickly skated past two defenders to break in on Doyle alone. He sent a backhander past Doyle while being held by a defender to give Norfolk a 4-1 lead at 10:21. This would prove to be the final score, as the Admirals were victorious in Albany. Adam Munro was solid in net, stopping 28 of 29 shots to pick up the victory. Frank Doyle was saddled with the loss and stopped 27 of 31 shots for Albany.

The Admirals were 2-6 on the power play. The River Rats were 0-7.
