Hershey, Penn. - The Hershey Bears (42-19-4-10) scored six consecutive goals en route to a 7-2 victory over the Lowell Lock Monsters (27-34-5-7) at the Giant Center on Friday night.
Lowell took the 1-0 lead at 3:39 of the opening frame with an unassisted goal by David Gove on one of the Monsters first shots of the game. After killing off three straight Lowell power plays in the first, Hershey tied the game and did not look back. Boyd Gordon scored a power play goal for the Bears to jump start the offensive surge later in the frame. The Monsters escaped the first with a 1-1 tie, though they were outshot 11-5.
It was all Hershey in the second. They pelted Monsters G Craig Kowalski with 21 shots in the stanza, lighting the lamp three times. Lawrence Nycholat notched his 12th of the season, sandwiched by a pair of Thomas Fleischmann tallies to put up a 4-1 advantage over the visitors. For Fleischmann, the goals gave him 27 on the season and paved the way to First Star honors in the game. Meanwhile, the teams combined for 46 penalty minutes on 17 infractions, including a pair of fights, in the period.
Dean Arsene and former Monster Colin Forbes potted goals for Hershey in the third, to pace a 6-1 lead for the home team. Ryan Steeves, who played last season in Hershey when they were affiliated with the Colorado Avalanche, added the final tally of the night for the Monsters, giving him seven on the season. Frantisek Skladany assisted on the goal in his return to the lineup after missing the last 11 games to injury. The Bears notched a shorthanded goal in the final minutes to close out the offense on the night. Kowalski made 33 saves in the losing effort. The loss officially eliminated the Lock Monsters from playoff contention.
The Monsters head to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for a Saturday night match-up with the Penguins, the last meeting between the two on the season. Game time is 7:05 p.m. It's the final non-divisional contest of the season for Lowell. The Monsters return home to host the Portland Pirates on Wednesday, April 12th at 7:05 p.m.
