Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Milwaukee, WI- Milwaukee Admirals goalie Brian Finley stopped shots from his knees, side, back, skates and every other imaginable position on Friday night versus the Iowa Stars, but it was two shoot-out attempts that he didn't stop that allowed the Stars to top the Admirals 3-2 in a shoot-out.

The Admirals did gain a point in the standings to keep them three up on the Houston Aeros in the race for the West Division crown. The Aeros fell to the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knight 2-1 in overtime.

Finley made 44 saves on the night, three shy of his team high for the year, including 20 in the third period and overtime and almost single handedly kept Milwaukee in the game. However Jamie Johnson and Junior Lessard, the Stars third and fourth shooters, converted back-to-back in the shoot-out, putting the Stars dormie on the Admirals.

Darren Haydar's successful attempt and Finley's stop of Patrick Traverse prolonged the game, but Chris Durno couldn't convert on his try, giving his Stars the victory.

Milwaukee had a 2-1 lead entering the third period, but Junior Lessard scored the game tying goal at the 5:30 mark of the third period. Loui Ericksson and Vojtech Polak assisted on the goal. The Stars controlled play the rest of the game, but Finley and the Milwaukee defense held firm and forced OT.

The two teams played to a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes of play with the Admirals getting a little bit of luck on their first goal. Stars goalie Mike Ellis came out of his cage to play the puck, but was unable to clear it and he ended up falling down. Libor Pivko gathered the puck and dropped it to Chris Durno who fired the puck towards the net and it deflected off of Rich Peverley and into the open net.

Iowa would tie the score later in the period when Kyle Brodziak netted his 11th goal of the year. As an interference penalty to Brodziak expired Kevin Klein fired a shot that was block just inside the blueline. The loose puck was picked up by Jamie Johnson who found Brodziak streaking towards the Admirals net and he beat Finley.

In spite of spending much of the second killing off three Iowa power plays, the Ads held a 2-1 lead after two periods. Libor Pivko found the back of a wide open net after Simon Gamache picked a loose rebound on Eliss' right side and quickly found Pivko on the other post for the goal.

Pivko had a goal and an assist to pace the Admirals offense. Gamache's assist made it 11 straight games with at least a point, setting an Admirals team high for the year.

The Admirals hit the road again tomorrow when they travel to Omaha to take on the Knights in a 7:00 pm game.
