Iowa Chops News Release

MILWAUKEE, WI - The Iowa Stars and the Milwaukee Admirals closed out their Regular Season series on Friday night in Wisconsin. The Stars began their six-game road trip with a come-from-behind 3-2 shootout victory over the Admirals.

Milwaukee's Rich Peverley gave his team a 1-0 lead at 11:19 of the first period. Iowa's Kyle Brodziak evened the score at one when he notched his 11th goal of the season at 17:35 of the opening frame. Jamie Johnson and Marius Holtet picked-up the assists.

Libor Pivko gave the Admirals a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 8:56 of the second period. Pivko's goal was the only tally of the second period. Junior Lessard evened the score at two with his team-leading 24th of the season when his backhand shot beat Milwaukee goaltender Brian Finley at 5:30 of the third.

Toby Petersen's franchise record for the longest points-streak in team history, seven games, came to an end. The Minnesota native had three goals and seven assists in that span: 7(3/7/10).

After a scoreless overtime period that saw Iowa fire six shots on goal, the two teams went to a shootout. Vojtech Polak and Loui Eriksson were held goalless. Jamie Johnson used a backhander and Junior Lessard fired a wrist-shot to give Iowa a 2-0 lead in the shootout. The first three Milwaukee shooters failed on their attempts before Darren Haydar put his team on the board. After Patrick Traverse failed on Iowa's final attempt, goalie Mike Smith stopped Chris Durno on Milwaukee's final attempt and preserved the win for Iowa.

Mike Smith turned aside 31 of 33 shots and became the first Iowa goaltender to reach the 20-win plateau. The Stars finished the month of March with a record of 9-3-0-2, their most successful month of the 2005-06 campaign.

With Omaha's 2-1 come-from-behind overtime victory, coupled with Iowa's win, the Stars remain three points out of the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division.
