'Dogs defeated by Wolves

Hamilton, ON - James Sanford scored his tenth goal of the season, tying the franchise record for most goals scored by a defenceman as the Bulldogs fell to the Chicago Wolves by a score of 3-1 on Friday evening at Copps Coliseum.

The Wolves opened the scoring at 4:36 of the opening frame when Brian Maloney wristed a shot from inside the blue line that beat ‘Dogs netminder Jaroslav Halak. Chicago took a 2-0 lead at 9:12 when Kevin Doell fed a pass from the slot to Stoney Creek native Mark Popovic who beat Halak high on the blocker side.

The Bulldogs cut the lead to 2-1 at the 2:46 mark of the third period while on the power play when James Sanford buried a loose puck at the side of the Wolves net. The goal was Sanford's tenth of the season and tied the franchise mark for most goals in a season by a defenceman. The record was held by Craig Millar who scored 10 goals in the 1997-98 season. Kyle Chipchura, who was playing in his first professional game, and Maxim Lapierre earned the assists.

Justin Morrison added an empty netter at 19:32 to round out the scoring.

Halak made 29 saves and suffered the loss, while Garnett stopped 25 shots to earn the win.

Hamilton was 1 for 7 on the power play while Chicago went 0 for 8.

Hamilton's next action will take place tomorrow, Saturday, April 1st when the Manchester Monarchs visit Copps Coliseum.
