
Admirals Begin March with Four Games in Five Nights Against East

NORFOLK, Va. - Last weekend, the Norfolk Admirals recorded a five of a possible six points and moved into a tie for fourth place in the AHL's East Division. The Admirals begin a stretch of four games in five nights when they take on the Hershey Bears at Scope on Wednesday night at 7:15.
Norfolk concluded their season-long eight game homestand by defeating the Charlotte Checkers at home for the first time this season, in a 4-3 shootout victory. The following night, the Admirals let a two-goal lead slip away late in the third period and lost in a shootout to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Pennsylvania, 3-2. The following afternoon, the Admirals traveled to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where they erased an early third-period deficit and defeated the Albany Devils, 4-3.
Before hitting the road for a three-games in three-nights trip, the Admirals will play host to the Hershey Bears for just the second time this season on Wednesday in another Admirals Value Night. Family Fun Packs, presented by SunTrust, include four Red Level Tickets, four hotdogs, four drinks and four popcorns for $48. Student Rush tickets are available for $8 and can be purchased after 2 p.m. on the day of the game. The Admirals then set sail for contests against the Albany Devils, Hershey Bears and Binghamton Senators on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
EAST DIVISION STANDINGS
With 21 games remaining, the Norfolk Admirals (29-17-8-5, 71 pts.) are currently tied for fourth place in the East Division with the Binghamton Senators (32-21-3-4, 71 pts.). The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (44-16-0-0, 88 pts.), Hershey Bears (38-19-1-3, 80 pts.) and Charlotte Checkers (34-20-2-6, 76 pts.) are in first through third places, respectively. The Adirondack Phantoms (20-31-3-6, 49 pts.), Albany Devils (22-32-1-3, 48 pts.), and Syracuse Crunch (20-32-3-4, 47 pts.) wrap-up the East Division standings.

NORFOLK NOTES:
- Norfolk tied a season high with 23 shots in the first period on Friday vs. Charlotte.
- The Admirals recorded 54 shots on goal on Friday vs. Charlotte, coming up two shots shy of tying their franchise record for shots in a game, set on October 16, 2010, vs. Worcester Sharks at Scope (56 shots).
- The Admirals killed 24 consecutive opponent power plays before Drayson Bowman's third period power play goal on Friday vs. Charlotte.
- Norfolk won its first home game against Charlotte this season in its sixth and final regular season try on Friday at Scope.
- The Admirals have lost a league-high thirteen games in either overtime or a shootout this season. Norfolk has played 19 overtime games (tied for the second-most in the AHL) and is 2-8 in overtime and 4-5 in a shootout.
- Mattias Ritola has recorded multiple assists in four of the eight games he has played with Norfolk since being assigned by Tampa Bay. He notched three assists on Sunday afternoon against Albany.
- Blair Jones has netted the game-winning goal in each of Norfolk's last three wins (2/12 vs. Syracuse, 2/25 vs. Charlotte in shootout, 2/27 at Albany). Jones is tied for seventh in the AHL with five game-winning goals this season and is now only two goals shy of tying his AHL career high in goals (20, 2008-09).
ADMIRALS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Paul Szczechura: 3 GP, 1 G, 3 A, 4PTS
Center Paul Szczechura netted a goal and three assists as the Admirals claimed five of a possible six points in the standings last weekend. Szczechura recorded his first goal in 13 games on Friday vs. Charlotte and added two assists in a 4-3 shootout victory. On Saturday at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Szczechura notched an assist as the Admirals fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a shootout.
Szczechura is one of only three players to have appeared in all 59 games for Norfolk this season. He has scored 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points. Szczechura is tied for third on the Admirals in points, tied for second in assists, tied for the team lead with six power play goals and leads the team with 167 shots. He is also tied for fifteenth in the American Hockey League in shots on goal.
