The Pirates barged out to a 3-0 lead in the opening period grabbing goals by Luke Adam (18th), Paul Byron (15th), and T.J. Brennan (11th). Adam scored on a tic-tac-toe play down low in the Sharks zone at 1:55, Byron off a faceoff win to the right of Sexsmith, and Brennan a blast from the point at 17:57. Sean Sullivan (12th) got Worcester on the board with a snap shot from forty feet through a screen at 9:19 after a nice rush into the Pirates zone by Dan DaSilva. Portland made the score 4-1 less than a minute later, on the power play, as Derek Whitmore's (22nd) wrist shot from the left slot clanged off the crossbar and past Sexsmith at 10:23. Dan DaSilva (12th) zipped the puck into the net at 14:11 after Andrew Desjardins found him all alone on top of the blue paint in the Portland zone. Luke Adam (19th) scored his second goal of the game with 4.9 seconds left in the period after he intercepted a Benn Ferriero pass in the Pirates zone, and then scored a backhander on a breakaway to put the Pirates ahead 5-2 after 40 minutes.
Colin Stuart (11th) added a power play goal at 11:50 of the third period to seal the victory for Portland and end the Sharks three game point streak.
