Wolves to Present Doell with Tim Breslin Unsung Hero Award

April 7, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release

The Chicago Wolves will present center Kevin Doell with the 2006 Tim Breslin Unsung Hero Award before the team meets the Iowa Stars at the Allstate Arena on Sat., April 8, at 7 p.m. The award recognizes the Wolves player who best typifies Breslin's on-ice spirit and team-first attitude.

Breslin, who was one of the first three players signed by the franchise, passed away on Feb. 9 due to complications from appendiceal cancer, which is a malignancy of the appendix. The Addison native and Driscoll Catholic High School graduate played five seasons with the team and was a member of the 1998 Turner Cup Championship squad.

"Kevin does everything with a team-first mentality," said Wolves Head Coach John Anderson, who was at the helm for the 1998 championship squad. "Like the way Tim always played, he just wants to go out there and do what's best for his teammates. He doesn't look for a pat on the back or the kudos. He does everything that is asked of him."

Doell was selected through fan voting at chicagowolves.com during March. The 26-year-old center emerged from a list of three Wolves candidates - forwards Pat Dwyer and Justin Morrison and defenseman Tim Wedderburn - nominated by the Wolves coaching staff.

"You know you are doing something right when your coaching staff and fans award you with an honor like this," said Doell. "There are a lot of guys on our roster that are deserving of Tim's award. It's an honor that they see his qualities in me."

In his third professional season, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native ranks third on the squad with 33 assists and 49 points - both American Hockey League career-highs - in 72 games this season. He shares the team-lead with a +18 plus/minus rating.
