Stampeders Mourn Death of Jim Furlong

January 9, 2026 - It is with great sadness the Calgary Stampeders learn of the death of alumnus Jim Furlong, who played 174 games with the Red and White from 1962 to 1974. He was 85. Born in Winnipeg and raised in Lethbridge, Furlong joined the Stampeders in 1962 after playing at the University of Tulsa and saw action as a linebacker, a punter, a defensive lineman and a receiver over the course of his 12-year career in Calgary. January 9, 2026 - TORONTO - The Toronto Argonauts announced the team has signed Canadian LB Jalen Rayam. Rayam was selected in the fifth round of the 2025 CFL Draft. Rayam, 6'0"/225lbs, attended the University of Texas at El Paso in 2024, but suffered a season-ending injury on the third play of his first game for the Miners. Born in Calgary, Rayam played at Middle Tennessee State from 2022 to 2023, seeing action in 14 games and tallying 38 tackles, three for loss, and half a sack. January 9, 2026 - OTTAWA - The Ottawa REDBLACKS announced today that the football club has re-signed American defensive lineman Michael Wakefield to a one-year deal. The 6'0, 260-pound native of Valdosta, Georgia, suited up in all 18 games for the REDBLACKS last season, registering 24 defensive tackles, including one tackle for loss, three quarterback sacks and one pass knockdown.
