Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa - Top Padres pitching prospect MacKenzie Gore returned from the disabled list, but the TinCaps lost to the Quad Cities River Bandits (Houston Astros) at Modern Woodmen Park on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0.
Gore, who was placed on the DL with a blister on his left middle finger following his season debut on April 10, retired the first four batters he faced, striking three out. However, in the bottom of the second, five consecutive Quad Cities (17-13) batters reached base. After back-to-back singles to left field just got by shortstop Justin Lopez -- the second of which took a funky hop or else it could have been a tailor-made double play. Following a walk, Bandits second baseman Marcos Almonte barreled a bases-clearing triple to left-center field. Left fielder Corey Julks followed with a double to the gap in right that made it 4-0.
Quad Cities right fielder Bryan De La Cruz hit a solo home run in the third. The River Bandits added another run in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Fort Wayne (14-18) had three hits in the first three innings, but didn't collect another hit until a pair in the ninth.
Gabriel Arias, Jack Suwinski, and Tre Carter each reached base twice. Suwinski and Carter both hit a double. Caleb Boushley pitched the seventh and eighth without allowing a hit or a walk.
