Gladiators Score 6th Round Victory in Fight against Cancer
March 7, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
Due to overwhelming fan support and community involvement, the Gwinnett Gladiators 6th annual "Pink in the Rink" Weekend was yet another major success. The team-hosted event, held at the Arena at Gwinnett Center during the Gladiators games on February 15th, 16th & 17th, raised a combined total of nearly $50,000 in donations from various activities in conjunction with "Pink In The Rink" fundraising initiatives. These associated efforts are conducted by various participating charitable groups specifically to benefit a wide range of cancer-related causes in the North Metro Atlanta area.
With the team skating on a pink ice surface at the Arena at Gwinnett Center over three-game mid-February homestand the Gladiators returned more than $10,000 to local cancer-related causes through ticket sales fundraisers over the weekend, with sales of commemorative "Pink in the Rink 2012" official team merchandise raising an additional $2,000. Corporate sponsorship of the event was provided by The Georgia Lottery, Kroger, DoMyOwnPestControl.com, The Gwinnett Daily Post, Star 94, Fox 5, and News/Talk WSB.
The weekend prior, the annual limited-edition Specialty Jersey Auction was conducted to cap off the Gladiators 10th Anniversary Celebration Weekend on Sunday, February 10th, with proceeds from the live post-game auction raising over $34,000. Featuring a special 10th Anniversary theme, 25 jerseys netted a minimum of $1,000 each during a live postgame auction, with team captain Andy Brandt's game-worn #41 going for the highest winning bid of $3,000, while the #14 jersey worn by Marietta, Georgia native Doug Jones went for $2,300.
The funds raised through these charitable events during the month of March will benefit The Sport of Giving, The American Cancer Society and the Gladiators Foundation for Kids. The Gladiators Foundation for Kids Fund is managed by the Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia, a 501-C-3 charitable organization based in Duluth, GA.
The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
