Portland Sea Dogs News Release
Portland, Maine- Michael Lee tossed six shutout innings and Oscar Tejeda smashed his first Double-A home run as the Sea Dogs (6-9) defeated the Binghamton Mets (6-9) 8-2 Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. It was the first victory of the season against the Mets in four tries for the Sea Dogs.
Michael Lee (1-1) earned his first Double-A win tossing six shutout innings allowing only two hits. He struck out a Sea Dogs' season high six batters and did not walk a batter. It was just the second quality start by a Sea Dogs' pitcher this season. The 24 year-old threw 77 pitches, 44 for strikes. Only Jordany Valdespin and Josh Satin were able to collect a hit of Lee; Valdespin a double in the third inning and Satin a single in the fourth.
Lee is in his fourth professional season and made only 18 career starts entering the night. He was an eighth round pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 2008 June Draft.
Binghamton starter Mark Cahoon held the Sea Dogs offense scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Oscar Tejeda launched his first Double-A home run; a three run shot off the Paradigm Windows sign over the Maine Monster giving Portland a 3-0 lead.
Cahoon (0-1) suffered the loss surrendering three runs on six hits; he struck out four and walked two.
Ed Ramirez relieved Cahoon in the seventh and was unable to record an out as the Sea Dogs loaded the bases on two hits and a walk when Tim Federowicz cleared the bases with a three run double to left giving Portland a 6-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Will Middlebrooks collected a RBI double off Roy Merritt and Tejeda drove in his fourth run of the game with a RBI single.
Binghamton was able to scratch across a pair of runs off Santo Luis in the eighth with RBI singles from Valdespin and Satin.
Blake Maxwell closed out the game in the ninth for the Sea Dogs.
The series continues Wednesday night at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field. The first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a Jon Lester bobblehead doll, made possible by U.S. Cellular. Sea Dogs' righty Alex Wilson (2-1, 5.14) will be on the mound for the Sea Dogs. He will be opposed by Binghamton righty Brad Holt (0-0, 0.50).
