April 26, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
AKRON, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced Akron reliever LHP NICK HAGADONE has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the week of April 17-23.
The Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and will be announced each Tuesday thru the end of the minor league baseball season. All players from the Tribe's minor league affiliates are eligible for the weekly award.
Hagadone, 25, a starter for most of his career, was converted to a reliever this spring. Over the past week, he tossed 5.1 scoreless innings of relief while allowing 4 hits, walking 1 and striking out 8. Thus far this year he has not allowed a run in 10.2 innings, covering 5 appearances, while allowing just 5 hits, striking out 14 and walking just 1 batter. He has limited opponents to a .162 (6-27) average against and right-handed hitters are just 2 for 21 (.195) off of him.
Hagadone was obtained by the Indians along with tonight's starting pitcher, RHP Justin Masterson, and RHP Bryan Price from the Boston Red Sox on July 31, 2009 in a trade that sent Victor Martinez to the Red Sox. He was selected by the Red Sox with the 55th overall pick (sandwich round between 1st and 2nd rounds) of the 2007-First year Player Draft out of the University of Washington where he was a teammate of SF Giants RHP Tim Lincecum. During his sophomore season at UW he and Lincecum combined on a no-hitter vs. Santa Clara. The Sumner, Washington native was added to the Indians 40-man roster in November and was named the 10th best prospect in the Indians organization entering 2011 by Baseball America.
