'Wolves Plate Three In The Seventh, Sweep Doubleheader

The SeaWolves used late inning dramatics as they finished off the Reading Phillies with a come from behind 4-3 win for a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

The Phillies got on the board in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Ramon Garcia. Matt Rizzotti singled to right with two outs and came home to score on a Carlos Rivero double for a 1-0 lead.

Reading extended its lead in the third, again with two outs. Cody Overbeck and Rivero hit back-to-back singles putting runners on the corners. Derrick Mitchell singled home Overbeck for a 2-0 Reading advantage.

The ‘Wolves cut into the lead in the fifth against reliever B.J. Rosenberg. Francisco Martinez led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a Shawn Roof base hit. Jeff Kunkel sacrifice the runners over for the top of the lineup. Jamie Johnson singled home Martinez making it 2-1 Reading.

In the top of the seventh, the Phils went back ahead by two when Freddy Galvis led off with a solo home run, his first, off of Austin Wood.

In the bottom of the seventh, the ‘Wolves would stage their first come from behind victory of the season. With one out, Phillipe Aumont walked Roof putting the tying run at the plate. Pinch hitter Justin Henry singled to right, putting runners on the corners for Johnson. Johnson singled home Roof to make it a one-run game at 3-2. After a Brandon Douglas fly out, the Howlers were down to their final out. Rawley Bishop fell behind in the count against reliever Justin De Fratus. Bishop then laced a two-run double, passed a diving Rivero at third, plating the tying and winning runs.

Chance Ruffin tossed a scoreless seventh, picking up his first win of the season.
