Clinton LumberKings News Release

Davenport, IA - 20-year-old right-hander Erasmo Ramirez authored another chapter in his All-Star season, striking out a career-high 12 batters over 6.0 innings as his Clinton LumberKings defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits 8-2 at Modern Woodmen Park. Ramirez was backed by a six-run third inning that included home runs by Mario Martinez, Tim Morris and Vinnie Catricala.

Ramirez (W, 9-4) extended his scoreless streak to a team-best 20.0 innings before finally allowing a run in the sixth inning. Matt Adams singled through the right side to score Luis Mateo, who singled to open the inning. A throwing error on shortstop Nick Franklin sent Colin Walsh around as well, trimming the lead to 8-2. Ramirez recovered to strand runners at the corners with a strikeout of Ross Smith, his 12th of the game.

Ramirez was supported early by a six-run third inning. Martinez blasted a one-out solo home run just below the scoreboard in left for a 1-0 lead, his 10th home run of the season. After a Franklin RBI groundout scored Matt Cerione and a wild pitch plated Luis Nunez, Morris went deep to the Tiki Lounge in right for a two-run clout, his fifth of the season. Catricala went back-to-back with Morris with a shot to center, his 10th of the season to cap the inning.

The Kings added two more runs in the fourth with two outs. Jones lined a single to center to score Cerione and Nunez singled and scored on a second wild pitch. All eight runs were charged to the line of right-hander Justin Smith (L, 6-1), who yielded all three homers and eight total hits over just 3.2 innings.

Clinton never scored again as left-hander Daniel Bibona threw 3.2 scoreless innings, but they wouldn't need insurance. Left-hander Jose Jimenez (S, 3) pitched 3.0 scoreless innings of his own including four strikeouts for the save.

Nunez (2-for5, 2 runs) and Jones (2-for-4, run, RBI) had the only multi-hit games in Clinton's 10-hit output. Morris finished 1-for-5 with two RBI, both coming on the home run.

Adams had the only RBI for the Bandits on 1-for-4 hitting. All five of the hits by Quad Cities were singles.

The LumberKings (20-18) conclude the series with the River Bandits (23-14) tomorrow night at Modern Woodmen Park with the first pitch at 7:00 PM. Right-hander Yoervis Medina (0-0, 0.00) will make his Clinton debut. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
