South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Bowling Green, KY - The South Bend Silver Hawks entered Thursday night's game with Bowling Green on a three game winning streak and looking for their first four game winning streak since April. However, an early deficit proved too much to overcome, as South Bend went down in defeat 6-4 in game three of the four game series.

Bobby Borchering actually put South Bend on the board first, launching a solo home run with two outs in the first inning against Bowling Green starter Kirby Yates (WP, 3-6). Borchering would finish with two hits and three runs scored, notching his fifth straight multi-hit game and extending his overall hitting streak to six straight.

However, the Hot Rods would rally against Diogenes Rosario (LP, 4-6) in the third and the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. Bowling Green had four runs on five hits in the third inning, with Julio Cedeno's two RBI single highlighting the big inning. They added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Ryan Wiegand picked up a RBI on a sacrifice fly and the sixth run of the game scored on a passed ball.

South Bend tried chipping away, but ultimately ran out of time. Keon Broxton had a RBI double in the fifth inning, extending his hitting streak to a season-high seven games.

In the sixth, Borchering led off with a single and Matt Davidson doubled him over to third. Errol Hollinger picked up a sacrifice fly to make it a 6-3 ball game. Davidson would finish 3-for-3, raising his batting average to .300 on the year.

Finally, in the eighth, South Bend would load the bases against Deivis Mavarez (ND) with one out. Borchering was hit by a pitch, Davidson singled, and Ramon Castillo singled to load them up for Errol Hollinger. Hollinger walked on four pitches to pick up his second RBI of the night and make it 6-4, and Andrew Fie worked a 2-0 count against Mavarez.

In a rare move, Bowling Green manager Brady Williams went to his bullpen in the middle of an at-bat, bringing in lefty Jake Sullivan (SV, 2). Sullivan got Fie to pop up and Victor Estevez to ground out, ending the bases loaded threat.

Sullivan then pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the victory for Bowling Green.

Even with the loss, the Silver Hawks remain just 4.5 games out of a playoff spot since the Lansing Lugnuts lost again to the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Thursday night.

The Silver Hawks and Hot Rods wrap up the four game series on Friday night with an 8:05 PM Eastern Time first pitch. LHP Mike Belfiore (1-8, 4.35 ERA) will start for the Silver Hawks, while Bowling Green's probable is LHP Aaron Dott (2-3, 4.86 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 7:45 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com .
