Augusta Lynx News Release
Augusta, GA - Six different Augusta Lynx players lit the lamp in a 7-2 win over the Johnstown Chiefs on Saturday night at the James Brown Arena.
The first period featured goals from Mike Erickson, Shane Hynes, Louis Goulet, and Brian Passmore as the Lynx went 2-for-2 with the power play and staked themselves to a 4-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.
Johnstown would manage a pair of tallies in the second period, but Augusta replied after each marker to maintain a four goal gap. Dirk Southern scored his first of two on the night at 13:00 of the frame, and Ken Scuderi's first goal of the year at 17:12 made it 6-2 at the end of the period.
In the third period Southern recorded his second goal on a play that summarized the shorthanded Chiefs' night. Believing a delayed penalty was being called, backup goaltender Morgan Cey sprinted to the bench during play for an extra attacker. Unfortunately for Johnstown, there was no penalty call pending and the Lynx brought the puck back down and scored into the yawning goalmouth at 7:22 to cap a 7-2 final.
Gerald Coleman stopped 16 of 21 shots and was saddled with the loss in 33:47 of game play time, while Cey made 10 saves in reserve. Dave McKee earned the win with 27 saves for the Lynx in the contest.
Summary: Scoring AUG - 4-2-1=7, JHN - 0-2-0=2; Shots AUG - 13-11-13=37, JHN - 7-10-13=30; Power Plays AUG 2-4, JHN 0-2.
