WORCESTER, M.A. - The Syracuse Mets (42-50) scored seven straight runs to beat the Worcester Red Sox (47-45) on Saturday afternoon, a 7-3 final score in front of 7,381 at Polar Park.

The WooSox plated the first two runs of the day, scratching across runs in the third and fourth innings. In the third, Grant Williams slapped a single down the left field line, then stole second one batter later. After a flyout, Ronaldo Hernandez lined a single through the hole on the left side, scoring Williams.

Pedro Castellanos led off the fourth with a double to center, his third two-bagger in his 20th Triple-A game. Following a strikeout, Johan Mieses blooped a single to shallow right to make it 2-0 Worcester.

On the mound, Brian Keller and James Norwood posted runless outings for Worcester, each going two innings.

The two run lead held until the fifth, when Francisco Alvarez clobbered a grand slam to left off Durbin Feltman to put the road team on top. Alvarez, the number two prospect in Minor League Baseball, hit it 417 feet for his first Triple-A home run.

An inning later, former PawSox and Red Sox Deven Marrero smacked a two run shot of his own, a 426-foot homer to extend the Syracuse lead to 6-2. The long ball came off Eduard Bazardo, the first of the season allowed by the right-hander in his 28th outing.

Khalil Lee added to the Syracuse lead in the eighth with an RBI double to left-center, giving the Mets their seventh unanswered run.

Phillips Valdez tossed a runless top of the ninth, striking out two, including one against Alvarez to close the inning.

Worcester threatened in the bottom of the ninth, a frame that began with a Mieses walk and a single by Nick Sogard. With runners on first and third, Grant Williams beat out a would-be double play ball, scoring Mieses. One batter later, Devlin Granberg cracked a double off the wall in right-Syracuse executed a relay to the plate, nabbing Williams on his attempt to score from first. After a walk, Hernandez grounded out to end the ballgame.

The WooSox conclude the three-game series Sunday at 1:05 p.m. against the Syracuse Mets. On the mound, Chris Murphy (2-0, 2.35) faces Thomas Szapucki (2-6, 3.51). Radio coverage is live at 12:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon and the WooSox Radio Network, while television coverage is on NESN+.
