Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds dropped game two of a three-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers at AutoZone Park on Saturday night by the final score of 8-6.

The Redbirds fell behind early as Gwinnett put up crooked numbers in each the first two frames to jump out to a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Memphis would begin to claw its way back.

With two outs in the inning and none on, first baseman Luken Baker lined a ball over the left-field wall for his 16th home run of the year to tie Alec Burleson for the team lead. An inning later, Memphis put together three consecutive two out hits to push across two runs. Shortstop Paul DeJong and right fielder Scott Hurst were each credited with an RBI.

After Gwinnett pulled out to an 8-3 lead, Burleson came to the plate with two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning. The left-handed slugger blasted his 17th home run of the season and his first of the month of July to regain the team's home run lead.

The Memphis Redbirds (50-42) returns to AutoZone Park on Saturday night against the Gwinnett Stripers (46-46) for a scheduled 2:05 p.m. CDT first pitch..
