NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders return to the diamond after the All-Star break to make their first trip to Coca-Cola Park and face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. This is the first three-game series of the season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and their first trip to this ballpark this season. These two won't play a six-game series at Coca-Cola Park until the RailRiders' final road trip of the year in late September.

HEY, IT COULD HAPPEN - With a win tonight, the RailRiders would reach an even .500 record for the first time since they were 4-4, eight games into the season on April 14. It has been 100 days since Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was .500. They have not had a winning record since the day prior on April 13 when they were 4-3.

ALL BY MYSELF - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre enters today in sole possession of seventh place. This is the first time they have been alone in a position higher than eighth place since they were in seventh on April 30.

ALL I WANTED WAS A PEPSI - This is the RailRiders first trip to Coca-Cola Park this season. In 2021, the RailRiders went 12-6 in Allentown while going 21-15 overall in the season against LHV. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has not faired well against the IronPigs this season at PNC Field, losing nine-of-twelve games against them while being outscored 74-42. They are 1-0 at this park after Friday's win.

BEN'S BIZ - Ben Rortvedt is continuing his rehab assignment with the RailRiders after playing four games with Hudson Valley. The catcher is coming back from a right oblique strain. He went 1-for-12 with the Renegades with three walks and six strikeouts and went 0-2 with a pair of walks in Friday's opener. Prior to this season, Rortvedt had spent his entire career in the Minnesota Twins organization. He was traded to the Yankees from the Twins on March 13 of this year in a deal that included Gary Sanchez, Gio Urshela, Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY - Since July 7, Rob Brantly has gone 9-for-15 with a double. He has driven in three runs in a four-game span. His three-hit performance last Friday (July 15) was his first game in six days (July 9). He came in defensively Friday but did not bat.

STREAKY -Greg Weissert has not been charged with a run in fifteen straight appearances, the longest stretch for any RailRiders pitcher this season. This scoreless streak has lasted 14.2 innings... Jimmy Cordero is on a five-game scoreless streak... Shane Greene is on a five-game scoreless streak... Oswald Peraza has a four-game hit streak... Josh Breaux has a seven-game on-base streak, every Triple-A game he has had a plate appearance in... Jake Bauers has a six-game on-base streak...

FINISHED STRONG - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre finished the proverbial first-half just two games under .500 (44-46). The team was a season-worst seventeen games under the .500 mark at 19-36 on June 8, putting them 15.5 games back of first while holding last place in the IL East. Since June 9, the RailRiders have gone 26-10.

MOVE AND GROOVE - The Yankees made a series of moves since the All-Star break that have affected the RailRiders. Reliever Vinny Nittoli was released on July 18. Domingo German's rehab assignment finished and he was sent to New York on Thursday. As well, JP Sears was added to the Yankees roster as their "27th Man" in their doubleheader and then returned. Yesterday, Ron Marinaccio's rehab assignment was transferred to Double-A Somerset. Ben Rortvedt's rehab assignment was transferred to SWB. Carlos Espinal was promoted from Somerset.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION - The New York Yankees (65-30) hung on to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 7-6. Aaron Judge homered twice and now has an MLB-best 36 on the season. He's already homered three times since the All-Star break ended on Thursday. Gerrit Cole takes the mound to face Jordan Lyles tonight at 7:05 PM... The Somerset Patriots (54-34) won a slugest 10-8.
